ResearcH Abstract

This Capstone project includes research and communication-based solutions for HR personnel to utilize, which will reduce bullying in healthcare organizations among nurses and management, and in a general workplace setting. It provides an introduction of the problem, a literature review of bullying in the general workplace setting as well as healthcare, theories discussed in classes in the MSC program, and solutions to this problem based on these theories. This paper highlights an educational workshop concept that has been shown to reduce lateral bullying among nurses across multiple healthcare facilities. This workshop concept will be expanded on with recommendations based on three theories selected from the MSC program. The thesis for this paper is that bullies negatively affect the workplace culture, by breaking down communication and silencing workers, ultimately decreasing the success of a company. Utilizing the theories of transformational leadership, psychological safety, and social capital to expand on the educational workshop concept, will help to reduce bullying in the workplace.
